A few simple tips to make delicious cupcakes are here, and you’ll have plenty to get your teeth into as you prepare for your birthday party or even when you’re feeling festive.
Be a little creative, too!
I used to cook them with only one type of flour.
Now I’ve added more to make it look and taste as good as possible.
For a more traditional cupcake, add a little milk and cinnamon.
For more subtle cupcakes, add chocolate chips, walnuts or chopped nuts.
Use a high-quality baking pan.
I have a 5-cup cupcake pan in my house and it’s amazing.
I usually make a few batches of the same cupcakes and freeze them, making sure they’re fresh every day.
Make sure to bake the cupcakes on a very hot day.
I use a 400°F oven to bake my cupcakes.
I bake them for 30 minutes at 400°.
Use butter, sugar or cocoa powder for a soft cupcake.
If you don’t have an oven, you can use a plastic bowl, but I always use a glass one.
If using a cupcake stand, make sure it’s sturdy enough to support your cupcake and is not too hot to handle.
When baking the cupcake layers, pour the batter into the cup and make sure the edges of the cake are not touching.
You want the bottom layer of cupcakes to be just above the top layer of frosting.
Place the frosting over the cup cake.
Make it a bit taller than you normally would for the cup size, then pour a little more frosting on top.
Take a large, clean, oven-safe bowl and pour the cup of frosted batter into it.
Make the top half a little smaller than the bottom half.
Take the bowl and set it aside.
With a knife, make a hole in the center of the frosted cupcake with a butter knife.
You’ll have to get a good grip on the knife to do this properly.
You can use your fingers to hold the knife or the side of a spoon.
Put the frost and cupcake in the bowl.
Repeat with the remaining frosting and cupcakes until you have all the frostings on the cup.
Place a cup on top of the cup you made and place it on the baking sheet.
Use the cup as a cup holder.
When done, you will have a very pretty cupcake!
The frosting can be used as a topping to other cupcakes as well.
If it’s not your cup, the frost can be left on top and then used to fill a cupcakes with cream or ice cream.
If making a double-layer cupcake or if you want to make the frost in two layers, you’ll need to cut the cake into two halves and place them on the prepared baking sheet so the frost is evenly distributed.
Place another bowl of frosty batter over the top of each cupcake layer, and add a few drops of cocoa powder to keep it soft.
Place all the cup cakes in the oven at 400ºF for 15 minutes.
When the cup-cake is done, remove it from the oven.
It will cool slightly and you should have a soft, fluffy frosting to decorate the cup for the party. 18. Enjoy!
